Background of CMMI:
CMMI is the Capability Maturity Model Integration of system engineering and software engineering introduced by SEI in Sept. 2001. Comparing with the original capability maturity, CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) involves more extensive fields, covering such professional fields as software engineering, system engineering, development of integrated production and system purchase. According to materials from the U.S. DOD, the project that managed with CMMI model not only reduced the cost of the project but also improved the quality and on time completion rate. SEI had formally released the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Ver 1.1 in Dec. 2001, and formally announced that it would take about 2-3 years to complete the transition from CMM to CMMI. Though at present SEI still provides training for director assessor of SW-CMM and CBA-IPI, and accept the assessment data, all will be formally stopped by the end of Dec. 2005. That is to say, by the end of 2005, all CMM will be transited to CMMI.

It can be said that CMMI is the perfect and optimized CMM. CMM model was introduced in 1980s, and has greatly promoted the improvement in software production as well as software quality since it was extensively used in the improvement of software process. However, it has defects in the process improvement in such fields of system engineering, integrated product and process development. Therefore, CMMI is another good tool for process improvement following CMM.

Training description:

It is prerequisite for becoming member of SCAMPI assessment team, or participating in other SEI CMMI intermediate level concept, SCAMPI director assessor and CMMI instructor training courses to succeed in completing this training; the participant who succeed in completing the training will obtain the certificate issued by SEI.
